I had the pleasure of taking Heather & Jesse’s wedding photos on November 3, 2018 in Watsonville at St. Patrick’s Parish and the VFW! We took bride & groom portraits at La Selva Beach, and even though the sun was high I think the pictures turned out nicely because Heather & Jesse are so beautiful!! I got the chance to practice things I’ve learned from Caroline Tran’s lighting course and lots of photographer friends who have given me advice.
This was a new experience for me, as I’ve never shot a wedding before. I’ve been an assistant to a day-of coordinator for over a year, and I got married, so I have an idea of how wedding timelines tend to work. I knew the day would go by super quickly, but I didn’t realize how quickly! Unlike portrait sessions where you can intentionally pose people, at weddings you have to go with the flow and it’s not really until the group or couples photos that you get to pose people and be in “control.” So this was SO fun to experience and I’m so thankful that Heather and Jesse trusted me to capture their wedding memories. I’m thankful for Holly for connecting us!
Before doing this wedding I asked photographers questions, read a ton of blogs, rented gear to practice, and just in general practiced a lot. Some of my favorite photos that I took on this aren’t absolutely perfect (you have to go so quickly!) but the imperfection makes it unique. I like capturing real moments, and imperfection is real.
I didn’t have to pose Heather and Jesse much at all… they’re so comfortable with each other and their love for each other is so obvious. Plus they’re just SUPER fun and mature so that made the day so much easier. Congrats Heather & Jesse!
