FAQ

Trying to figure out if we’re a good fit? Read below for some questions that people typically ask their photographers!

If you’re laidback, love the messiness of life, love being outside, and enjoy being ridiculous and embrace your weirdness, then I think we can work it out!

Do you take photos of people besides couples and young families?

I’ll take the occasional headshot and do some contract editing work for others, but I’ve narrowed my focus so that I can specialize and continuously improve in just two deeper areas rather than spread myself thin. I love younger children and think I’m good with them after many years of working with kids, but with teenagers… I can recommend other awesome photographers :).

How much do you charge?

Inquire for my current pricing! Denver area weddings currently start at $2000 for 6 hours, and lifestyle (couples and family) sessions start at $300. Prices are subject to change.

How many pictures will we get?

I can’t promise a specific amount, but I promise to not miss a moment! I average around 40 pictures an hour, at least!

Can we have the RAW images? Can I re-edit your photos?

Part of what you’re investing in is my editing style! If you don’t love my editing style, maybe we aren’t a good fit, and that’s totally okay! I know photography and editing styles are super subjective. So no, I do not give out my RAW files for you to edit or put other filters on. I’ve worked hard to make my editing style consistent, and I’d love for you to honor that, credit me, and refer me based on my work!

What gear do you use? Are you insured?

I use Canon full frame bodies and prime lenses. I have dual card slots in my cameras to make sure nothing happens to your photos! Sometimes I use an old 35mm camera to shoot color film. I also back up your photos to at least 3 places right after I shoot. My gear is completely covered and I do also have liability insurance in case something happens during our shoot. I also use Canon speedlites when there is low light.

Will you Photoshop me to look different?

No! I will swap out closed eyes (family pictures are hard, I get it!), remove annoying distractions from the background, or remove a small gap in your shirt or photoshop out a stain, but I will never photoshop your look. You’re BEAUTIFUL and I believe in empowering you and representing you the amazing way you are.

Where should we take photos?

I love taking photos at places that are special to you, like inside your home or a beautiful place you connect with. Some places have limitations on permits, but I’ll make sure to find a place you love for your photos! I follow Leave No Trace principles to respect our land, so I won’t go off-trail or photograph smoke bombs, glitter, confetti, or props that will alter the environment. I also won’t photograph on others’ private property (sunflower fields, wildflower fields) unless we can get explicit permission and be sure to not damage anything.

Do you travel?

It depends. I am basing my services in the greater Denver area—I only do a few sessions a year to keep myself sane, but let’s talk though if you’re interested in hiring me to go elsewhere.

When will you send me the photos?

Weddings should take approximately 4-6 weeks. Regular couples and family sessions will take about 3 weeks. I send a ton of sneak peaks the day after (sometimes the night of because I’m so excited but I should really stop doing that so people can sleep). I usually finish galleries WAY faster (think half the time I promise) because I love editing and it makes me so happy!

Why does it take so long?

I strive to deliver faster than I promise you in my contract though and have always delivered before I said I would! It takes “so long” because I’m careful about editing—I remove egregious distractions from photos, I color correct, I make sure the pictures are consistent and in order, and I make sure the flow of the photos tells a story.

I hate taking pictures! I’m awkward! I’m nervous! My kids don’t sit still!

I’m awkward too! But I LOVE movement. Movement is imperfect, and we as humans are imperfect. When I photograph couples and families, I incorporate movement and imperfection into the photos so that you don’t even worry about posing a particular way. That way, we capture the real, authentic you and the in-between moments that make us laugh. If you’re looking for ONLY super posed, delicate portraits, I may not be your girl!

What do I wear for my session?

I’ll send you a style guide I made with lots of tips on how to plan our session, what to wear, what to expect.

Can I send you a shot list?

You can definitely give me a list of all the formal family portrait combinations you want at your wedding, but trust me when I say when it comes to regular portraits, it’s better when we’re not shooting off a list of particular poses you found on Pinterest. Part of hiring me is entrusting me to capture you, not you in someone else’s pose. Each couple and family is unique and I want to represent that well in the way I work with you and photograph you! We can definitely work together on a mood board for your session, but when I shoot, I’m trying to go with the flow—that will make it more fun for you too!

Do you have reviews?

I do on my homepage! And I have some on Yelp and some nice posts on Facebook. The best reviews are on Instagram though where people repost their pictures!

What are the next steps?

If you’re interested in hiring me, let’s chat however you wish! If it’s a good fit, we’ll come up with a date, I’ll send you a contract, you’ll sign it and send a retainer fee. After that, we’ll work together on a preferred location and I’ll help you with styling outfits if you want!

Last year I got to photograph a wedding ceremony by some pretty redwood trees, and this year I traded those for aspens. Clear creek inn and the town of Georgetown are so cute!!

Also, a champagne toast at the end of the ceremony is a great idea 💯

Now I will delete this app again, go into my editing cave, and see this beautiful inside and out couple on my screen every night! You can see some more previews in my story highlights
