This year had no shortage of adventures! At the end of 2018, Austin and I decided to move out of the SF Bay Area. By the first of 2019 we quickly put our plan into action! I found an amazing new job and we moved from California to Colorado in March and have done so much since then. I think it’s so funny that I thought life would slow down after we moved. That was absolutely not true!!
We were so lucky to have lots of friends visit us in Colorado after we moved (we saw/hosted 11 different groups of people!). Colorado in itself is a destination with lots of cool spots, so it was fun to explore with friends and also entice them to come visit not just us but also the state. I went to Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado Springs, Boulder, Breckenridge, Aspen, the Great Sand Dunes National Park, Royal Gorge, the farm (in Holyoke), Silverthorne, various random places, and just a few places in Denver. Sometimes I feel like I didn’t see as much as I wanted to in our new state, but I have to remember that we will be in Colorado probably forever AND that we did a ton of other stuff this year. Austin and I also went to OKC, Portland, and Costa Rica!
In 2020, we have some more adventures planned like a Dark Sky trip, Europe, Africa, and going back to visit the SF Bay Area. I really don’t count “traveling” as one of my hobbies, but these opportunities came up so we have to take them!!
I have posted all my sessions consistently this year—I didn’t have many this year as we moved and I worked more on the business-establishing side of things, but I am so content with & proud of all the work I’ve done! You can read my one-year blog anniversary post which was not very long ago so this post isn’t thatttt different. I just wanted to look back at some of my favorite 2019 photos again :). I have so many favorite photos from this year—most of them you’ve seen in previous blogs, but here’s a recap. In other blog posts and part of my site, I repeat over and over again that I love hidden, unseen moments, sometimes more than a perfectly posed picture. I hope as you look through these photos you felt the realness & joy I tried to capture.
Here are some personal pictures—there’s a mix of adventures with friends, the farm, Breckenridge, Costa Rica, the sand dunes, and the mountains. Both film & digital! As I’ve mentioned before, I have been using film for personal photos more and I love it!!
Here are a few couples photos from before we moved! I’m looking forward to doing more next year!
Here are family favorites! My most recent blog posts are of families so I thought this section would be shorter, but part of refining my brand was realizing I love photographing families with young kids! I love sweet moments like a dad looking at a mom while she plays with her kids and the proudness of a new parent. Hence the overwhelming amount of photos in this section, particularly that indoor session with the newborn.
As for weddings, I have so many favorites from the wedding I photographed in June and already put them all in this blog so take a peek at that one. I could post photos from that day FOREVER! The wedding was seriously a dream for a photographer, as it helped me understand the type of couple & wedding (down-to-earth & laidback, lovers of nature, and SUPER thoughtful) I love to photograph. I also learned to edit a slightly different way (warmer & more vintage edit) than my regular style to match the mood of the wedding! Here are just a few of my favorites even though there’s a GIANT blog post already about it, since I can’t help myself.
Thank you all for supporting me so well this year! In 2020, I’d like to try out astrophotography and more nighttime photography, learn how to shuffle cards, and be more present & generous. That last part may mean a little less time spent on this business, and I’m 100% okay with that! I don’t want to look back and realize I spent most of my year on my computer instead of hanging out with friends or family. Things I’ve worked on toward the end of this year like speeding up my workflow (with a Loupedeck! with a streamlined editing process that I standardize for every session! with blogging & photo resizing tools that will make blogging & delivering photos faster and more cost effective!) will hopefully help me achieve that goal!
Cheers!!!
